Baykam's works, which started painting at the age of two, have been exhibited all over the world, especially in Bern, Geneva, New York, Washington, Paris, London, Rome, Munich, Stockholm, San Francisco and Berlin, since the age of six.

Between 1975 and 1980, he studied economics at the Sorbonne University in Paris and acting at L'Actorat. Between 1980-1983, he studied painting and cinema at the California College of Arts and Crafts (now CCA). One of the pioneers of the international New Expressionism Movement that started in the 80s, Baykam stayed in the United States until 1987. Returning to Istanbul at that time, Baykam opened 142 solo exhibitions, half of which were international, and participated in numerous group exhibitions. He made many short films and videos, acted as an actor. Baykam also became one of the graffiti artists who changed the face of New York in the 80s. Bringing the large-scale works, politics and eroticism that he has standardized since the 80s to our contemporary art environment, the artist has started to produce “4D” four-dimensional works that have attracted great attention all over the world, as an extension of the digital and paint transparent layers series he has been working on for the last five years. . He has also curated many exhibitions.

Baykam, who is one of the founders of the International Plastic Arts Association affiliated to UNESCO and is still the President of the Turkish National Committee of this organization, was also elected as the World President at the 18th World Art Associations General Assembly of the International Association of Art (IAA), the official partner of UNESCO, held in 2015. . In 2011, at the 17th World Art Associations General Assembly held in Guadalajara, Mexico, upon the unanimous acceptance of Baykam's proposal as UPSD President, 15 April, the birthday of Leonardo da Vinci, was declared World Art Day. In 2019, Baykam's proposal, which he brought to UNESCO, this time as the IAA World President, was again unanimously accepted and the World Art Day became one of the International UNESCO Days.

Baykam is a former CHP Party Assembly Member and is the author of 31 books and two feature-length scripts. There are 51 catalogs and 8 books published about him. Baykam still writes for Cumhuriyet Newspaper.
